What a $10K month actually takes.
$10K a month is about $2,300 a week of cleaning. How many hours that takes depends almost entirely on what you charge. Most people who are stuck aren’t short on effort, they’re short on price.
| You charge | Hours a week | |
|---|---|---|
| $40/hr | 57.5Impossible once travel and admin are counted | Impossible once travel and admin are counted |
| $50/hr | 46.0Burnout | Burnout |
| $75/hr | 30.7Achievable on your own | Achievable on your own |
Billable hours only. Travel, quoting and admin come on top.
Five things you believe that are costing you money.
None of these are stupid. Every one of them is something I believed, or watched a member believe, right up until the numbers said otherwise.
- 01
“I need to get better at cleaning first.”
Nobody has ever chosen a cleaner because they were better at cleaning. They chose the one who answered the phone, turned up when they said they would, and made it easy to say yes. You win on the bare minimum done to a high standard, not on technique.
- 02
“I have to be the cheapest to win the work.”
The market rate for a business that actually employs people sits around $70–75 an hour including GST. Below that you're not cheap, you're unprofitable, you just haven't run the numbers yet. I've watched cleaners quote three times the next guy and win, because they turned up in person and he sent a text.
- 03
“I'll hire when I can afford it.”
You hire when you have the work, not when you have the confidence. A new cleaner runs 20–25% gross profit in month one, 35–40% in month two, and 45–60% by month three. Month one you write off on purpose. Wait until it feels affordable and you've already waited a year too long.
- 04
“Cleaning isn't a real business.”
It has close to the lowest barrier to entry of anything you could start. I began with $300, no skills and no qualifications. Recurring revenue, recession-resistant, and almost nobody competes properly. The reason it doesn't feel like a real business is that most people run it like a job.
- 05
“I need to be booked out before I get off the tools.”
Backwards. The reason you're not booked out is that you're on the tools. The day I handed the phone to someone else it added roughly $200,000 a year, because I had been the bottleneck the entire time and couldn't see it.

Started from zero
“Whatever I needed, I just took it from your Skool and filled in all the gaps in my knowledge, and I used that to get to where I needed to be.”
Was working four jobs
“I joined the Skool program Booked Out Cleaners, and since then things have literally just exploded and doubled and doubled and doubled, time after time.”
Started on her lunch break
“It's been really valuable having those connections and that support, not just from our group chat but within Booked Out Cleaners. Being able to ask a question in the forum and people get back to you with their thoughts.”
Started on her own
“Taking that jump and investing in yourself and your business, into the community that Jason's created, is being able to learn from someone who's done it and who continues to do it.”
Building a team
“One of the reasons I believe I've scaled so quickly and done so well so quickly is because it took out that guesswork for me. If I had a question, I would just ask it rather than ruminating on it for a while.”
Systemized Hiring
“The hiring side of things, which we used the Booked Out Cleaners modules for, has made hiring flow. There's a system to it, there's steps, you follow the steps and it works.”
Every quote is from the Booked Out Cleaners series on the Self Maid podcast. Booked Out Cleaners is the program the Academy replaced.
Frequently asked questions
Who is the Academy for?
Two kinds of people. Someone who hasn't started yet and wants to start right, and someone who already has a cleaning business that's a bit of a mess: you don't really know your numbers and you're not as profitable as you should be.
If you're under $10K a month, it's a great fit however long you've been going. Years in the business haven't fixed the fundamentals yet, and the fundamentals are what the Academy fixes.
What if I'm starting out with no clients?
That's exactly who The Cleaning Business Blueprint is for. Starting from nothing is an advantage: no underpriced clients you're scared to lose, and no habits to unpick.
How much time will it take?
Aim for at least a couple of hours a week going through the content and actually implementing it. Half an hour to an hour a day is ideal.
You work at your own pace. The courses are always there, so go into whichever one you need, when you need it, and watch the Q&A recordings if you can't make a call live.
How quickly will I see results?
It varies from person to person, and anyone who gives you a number is guessing. It comes down to how much of the content you go through and how much of the work you actually do. The members who do best are the ones who stick around, show up to the calls and engage in the community.
Do I need staff already, or to be a certain size?
No. The Academy suits people who haven't started and people whose business isn't ready to scale yet. If you do have staff you can still join, and there's good material on making your pricing model more profitable.
I've paid for a cleaning course before and got nothing. Why is this different?
Proof. I still own my cleaning business. It has generated over $10 million since I started it, it runs in two locations without me, and what I teach is current. If one bad experience stops you from ever trying again, you've let that person burn you twice.
Why would I pay when your content is free?
The free content is great, and if you haven't been through the podcast and the videos yet, start there. The Academy is for people who want the order to do it in, the numbers behind each decision, and someone looking at their specific business.
Will the Academy teach the actual cleaning?
The business side comes first, because that's what matters most at this stage. There's a course on the products and equipment I use, and a how-to-clean course is coming.
Does it work outside Australia?
Yes. Getting clients, pricing, quoting and running the business work the same anywhere, and MaidOS changes its tax and employment settings to fit your country.

Jason Shipway
CEO of Enhanced Cleaning
Two locations, 70+ staff, multiple six figures a month, under full-time management.
I was 14 when I left school, and by the time I was 18, I had no skills, no qualifications, and no job experience. My family pressured me to get a job, so I scraped together a resume and put it in front of over 100 businesses. But, to nobody’s surprise, not a single person wanted to hire someone of my calibre. That’s when I realised: if nobody was willing to give me a job, I needed to create one. And in March 2020, Enhanced Cleaning was born.
I spent a lot of time, money, and effort getting absolutely nowhere in the early stages. It took me 3 whole months to land my first customer, a measly $27 house clean that took me four and a half hours (do the maths on that hourly rate!), but I was committed to making it work.
Six years later, I’ve grown Enhanced Cleaning to 2 locations, 70+ employees, and multiple six figures a month in recurring revenue. The business is fully under management and runs without me needing to work in it, allowing me to travel the world and do the things I love.
I run a cleaning business podcast called Self Maid, where I’ve recorded over 130 episodes and 60+ hours of free content. I’ve also been featured on national television numerous times, won business awards, and had articles written about me in publications such as Forbes and Business Insider.
Now I’m helping other cleaning business owners do the same, without the years of guesswork I paid for.
Most cleaning business coaches make their money from coaching. I still make mine from my cleaning business.
Enhanced Cleaning still runs today. Two locations, 70+ employees, multiple six figures a month in recurring revenue, fully under management, without me in it.
Everything I’ll teach you is something I’ve actually tried and tested.
